Meet the Directors

Dee Zeller, Executive Director

Julia Connelly, Associate Director

Julia Connelly has been involved with Camp Wright since her first year as a camper in 1989.  She joined Camp Wright's staff in 1999, and has served as Associate Director since 2005.  Julia is a native of Salisbury, Maryland and holds a Bachelor's Degree in English and Secondary Education from Towson University.  In addition to her work at Camp Wright, Julia participates in American Camp Association events, volunteers with Episcopal Camps & Conference Centers, Inc., and teaches at the Sylvan Learning Center in Annapolis, Maryland.

Spiritual Life at Camp

Each day we start and end with Devotions.  We sing songs, tell stories, and seek God in our daily experiences.  Through Serendipity, our Christian Education program, we encourage each of our campers to explore a personal relationship with God.  Reflection and prayer help us live and care for one another and the world around us.  Together, we look to follow Jesus's example of living together and servant leadership.  A communion service at the end of each session celebrates God's presence and spirit among us.

Camper Health, Safety & Behavior

Camp Wright is inspected and licensed by the State of Maryland each year.  The kitchen and pool areas are inspected and licensed by the Queen Anne's County Health Department.  Health Care at camp is supervised by a licensed nurse.  A local physician and two hospitals are available for urgent medical care.  In emergencies, we are served by both the Queen Anne's County and the Kent Island Fire Departments and EMS.

Camp Wright's motto is "Learning to live together in a Christian way."  Campers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects this goal.   Behavior deemed dangerous, inappropriate, or unmanageable by the administrative staff is grounds for dismissal from camp.  Parents will be contacted if necessary for information, concerns, and medical information. American Camp Association

In 1994, Camp Wright was accredited by the American Camp Association http://www.acacamps.org (ACA).  The ACA is a private non-profit educational organization serving camps and camp professionals.  The ACA seeks to improve and develop professional practices in the camp industry.  ACA accreditation requires education, self-examination, and peer review.  Accredited camps agree to uphold a rigorous code of camp management practices.  At least once every three years, a team of camping professionals visits the program to observe the camp's operation and review its practices.  Camp Wright is proud to be an active participant in this process and to have our program meet or exceed ACA standards. 

Summer Staff

Camp Wright's program staff are interviewed, screened and selected by the Associate Director.  Fingerprints and Criminal Background checks are completed for each staff member.  At the beginning of each camp season, staff participate in an intense, comprehensive staff training program.

Staff are hired on the basis of their character, their commitment to young people, their ability to teach and to share their faith.  Specialized trainings and certifications are required for those staff leading archery, boating and aquatics activities.  All staff hold certifications in First Aid and CPR.  Camp Wright maintains a low camper to staff ratio with each group of campers supervised by at least two adults. Facilities

Camp Wright is located on 140 acres of wooded Chesapeake Bay front property.  The grounds include a Junior Olympic size swimming pool, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, playing fields, hiking trails, a beach, and an outdoor chapel.  Indoor space includes an arts and crafts building, a large group gathering space, and a dining hall.  Bathroom facilities and showers are located in a common bath house.  Resident campers and staff live in rustic three-season cabins with bunk beds.  (That means no electricity. Pack your flashlight!)

Financial Assistance

Scholarships are available to campers who may need financial assistance.  Most scholarships are arranged through a camper's parish.  However, some assistance is available directly through Camp Wright.  For more information, or to request a scholarship form, please contact the Registrar at registrar@campwright.com.
